Gino Andres Escalante Leite is one of the head coaches at Reebok CrossFit Back Bay. He has been coaching with the Back Bay team since its inception in January 2012. Gino is in charge of both the WOD and Gymnastics programming. Before that, Gino coached at CrossFit Providence for three years and was co-owner of CrossFit Newport in 2010.

Gino was not born with every athletic gift known to man. It took trial and error, hard work, and determination to excel in a demanding program like CrossFit. This grit has been one of his greatest tools in coaching, as he can relate to all individuals, from beginner to advanced, who take up CrossFit.

Before starting CrossFit, he swam for four years and was captain of the men’s swim team during his senior year of college. Gino has competed at the regional level of CrossFit with the CrossFit Newport team in 2011 and the Reebok CrossFit Back Bay teams in 2012 and 2013.

  • Nathan Gagnon COACH

Nate was born with a brachial plexus injury that resulted in partial paralysis of his right arm, a condition called Erb’s Palsy. Despite this fact, Nate grew up playing a number of sports, focusing on basketball, and was introduced to strength and conditioning as a teen. After years of playing pickup basketball and training on his own, Nate found CrossFit in December of 2012 and his life was changed. The movements and workouts in CrossFit confronted Nate with a new challenge for his Erb’s Palsy arm and it was one that he met head on.

Eventually, Nate became a member of the Back Bay Competition Team and an Athlete Advocate and Competition Team member for I Am Adaptive, a nonprofit organization focused on adaptive athletic awareness. Nate started coaching CrossFit with Phoenix Multisport, a nonprofit organization that provides free fitness programs to individuals in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Nate is passionate about the development of athletes at all levels and loves seeing people make what once seemed physically impossible turn into reality.

Ro has been teaching yoga internationally and in the Boston area for over 10 years. She completed her 200-hour teacher training with Ana Forrest and prenatal yoga teacher training with Bec Contant. Ro’s classes focus on preparing the body for action and restoring it from stress through the use of active (Forrest, Vinyasa) and passive (Restorative, Yin) elements of yoga. Her classes will promote core strength, flexibility, balance, improved circulation, and breathing. For the active athletes, Ro’s class is known to be an excellent preparation for a hard workout the following day or a great recovery tactic post-workout.

When Ro isn’t teaching yoga or doing CrossFit, she can be found rock climbing, hiking in remote corners of the world, and discovering new medicines as a drug discovery research scientist.

  • Dan Krahe Coach

Dan first became fascinated with strength sports as a child and started lifting weights when he was 15. After discovering CrossFit at 18, he dove head-first into teaching himself everything he could about physical development. He’s a self-taught athlete, but thanks to instant access to information, he has molded himself after his personal heroes.

Although CrossFit is not always perfect in practice, Dan believes fundamental principles are incredibly sound and fell in love with the philosophy behind CrossFit: Use the best means at your disposal to become as physically well-rounded as possible and constantly demand more from your mind and body. Dan embraces this principal by pushing through workouts to be the strongest version of himself, and he loves seeing members do the same. He believes that when individuals become more confident in the gym, they become more confident in other parts of their lives and begin to meet the world’s challenges head-on.

Dan’s favorite movements are loaded carries, particularly the front-loaded Zercher sandbag carry, as it’s a test of raw strength and helps people learn to keep their bodies safe under heavy loads.

Outside of the box, Dan thrives on learning new information by listening to podcasts and enjoys watching a good film or laughing at a stand-up comedy sketch. He studied furniture design in college and built furniture professionally, and despite never liking furniture, he can discuss it for hours on end.
